A stunning new McLaren ‘Ultimate Series’ roadster has been announced - the Batmobile-esque Elva.
So what do we think of it?
Nuzzling into the newly created ‘Monza’ market - ie open-top, no windscreen, over a million quid - the new McLaren Elva is certainly a looker.
It’s got real presence, no denying that - and it’s a tribute to the Bruce McLaren ‘Elva’ racers of the 60s, which obviously we love. At last McLaren celebrating and embracing its history!
Just 399 Elvas are being built, at £1.425million - and yes, you can have a windscreen if you want. Ouch, Ferrari.
Since it’s a McLaren, it’s powered by a 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo, with 0-60 claimed in under 3 seconds (aren’t they all these days), and 0-124mph quicker than the Senna. Sorry, Senna owners - you’re no longer at the top of the tree…
TheCarGuys’ first impressions - it’s a stunner for sure - an awesome shape, a bit Lamborghini Veneno, but not nearly as graceful or timeless as the Ferrari Monza, or indeed the original Bruce McLaren M1A. It’s also a shame to see that horrible dash-mounted tablet in the cockpit.
As McLaren 675LT owners, we obviously applaud McLaren continuing to push the boundaries of technology and design, and we can’t wait to see one in the flesh, or even better - drive it vs the Monza.
Deliveries are expected by the end of 2020. We don’t yet know what the eligibility criteria for the Elva is, but the smart money would be on Senna or Speedtail owners given priority. So that’s them all sold out already then…
WHAT WE LIKE
• Best looking McLaren in years
• Nostalgic nod to McLaren racing past
• Those speed humps
NO THANK YOU
• Sadly keeps the horrendous ‘Sanyok’ tablet in the cabin
• Quite expensive
• No doubt all sold out
